Optus crowdsources customers to build the best mobile network in Australia

Optus wants YOU to be part of building the best mobile network in Australia. Optus today announced an update to its OptusNow mobile app for Android™ to gain vital network information from customers. The good news is that you don’t have to lift a finger to help gather insights to improve your network experience.

The updated OptusNow app crowdsources network info such as signal strength from customers, which is sent to the Optus networks team. This helps the team deliver a faster, more reliable mobile service for customers throughout the country. With this app, Optus can understand customers’ actual network experience while they’re at home or on the run.

Amanda Hutton, Head of Customer Experience at Optus said, “As part of our commitment to giving customers the best network experience possible, we’re always looking for ways to improve. Our customers tell us network quality is one of the top reasons for choosing their telco, so understanding actual network experience and making improvements based on this are absolutely critical for us.”

“Networks are incredibly complex, so this app is designed to gain insight into network experience at an individual customer level, not just the average experience. No network is perfect, but with our customers’ help, we want to make the Optus mobile network the best in Australia. Through strong investment, smart partnerships and real feedback from customers, we’re well on our way to delivering this.”

The OptusNow app collects feedback on the network, which will help to identify:

  • Areas to upgrade
  • Location of black spots
  • Mobile phone faults
  • Call dropout locations
  • Strength of coverage inside buildings

So, what do you need to do? If you’re an Android™ user, you can join the 300,000+ people who have installed the OptusNow app for free in the Google Play store – and make sure you upgrade to the latest version. This app features news, weather, games and sport, and the upgraded version includes some technical smarts that tests the network.

The network information is run in the background of the app and doesn’t access any information about websites or apps you have browsed or used. When you install or upgrade the app, you are notified of the network data collection and have the ability to opt out or switch it off if you choose. There are no extra charges for using the app.
